The art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was developed by Hélio and Carlos Gracie in the early 1920's from traditional Kodokan Judo. The Gracie family evolved Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu into a martial art and combat sport based on ground fighting (ne-waza) and submission holds. Professor Vincent Anzelone is the Co-Owner and Head Instructor for Gracie Humaitá in Montgomery, TX. He began his martial arts journey as a young child in Pittsburgh, PA studying Tang Soo Do under Grand Master CS Kim. Before finding Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Vincent has also briefly studied Taekwondo, wrestling, and Budō Tai Jutsu.

In October of 2010, Vincent began training Gracie Jiu-Jitsu under black belt and Pan American Champion, Professor JW Wright at Gracie Humaitá STL, MO. Vincent trained directly with Professor JW at his academy in St. Louis for over 8 years becoming proficient in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, the Self-Defense System and competing in multiple events across the United States.

In November 2012, Vincent Anzelone founded the KOZEN Fighter Competition Series along with his Professor JW Wright, Krista Anzelone and Laura Taff. The KOZEN Fighter Competition Series hosted successful jiu-jitsu competitions throughout the MidWest until 2015 when they partnered with FUJI Sports and re-branded to The FUJI Jiu-Jitsu Championship Series. Since 2015, The FUJI Jiu-Jitsu Competition Series has grown to become one of the largest competition series of any kind in the entire world, hosting hundreds of events in over 40 states each and every year.

In October 2018, Vincent and Krista Anzelone moved to the Rio Grande Valley with the sole purpose of opening their own jiu-jitsu academy in order to teach the art they had been studying and promoting for so long. After moving over 1,100 miles from home and investing an enormous amount of time, work and resources they opened Anzelone Jiu-Jitsu in Brownsville, TX. Anzelone Jiu-Jitsu is on Ruben Torres Blvd in Brownsville less than one mile from the Southern Border. The academy is currently operated by Juan Cardenas (Brown Belt) with Vincent and Krista Anzelone visiting frequently in order to teach, train and visit with the members there.

Over the past 14 years, Vincent Anzelone has organized, hosted, promoted, coached, and refereed literally hundreds of jiu-jitsu competitions across the United States. As a competitor, Vincent has participated in events at multiple organizations in many different states. He has won the Chicago Midwest Championships (NAGA), the Missouri States Championships (KOZEN/FUJI) and the Pan American Championships (IBJJF).

Professor Daniel McFarlane is a Black Belt who has been training jiu-jitsu for over 16 years. Daniel is an extremely technical jiu-jitsu practitioner and has a passion for teaching. He has amazing experience teaching in the classroom as well at the high school and college levels.

Daniel is also an extremely talented artist with an undergraduate studio degree from Sam Houston State University and was awarded an Alumni Fellow at the University of Florida where he completed a Masters in Fine Arts in painting/drawing. His paintings have been exhibited nationally in New York, the Smithsonian Institution and JFK Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and the Faber Birren National Color Award Show. His work is featured in New American Paintings artist book; MFA annual No. 87, West No. 96, and blog.

Christopher is a purple belt, whose experience in both Brazilian juijitsu and MMA that spans nearly two decades. As Texas native and practitioner, Brazilian Jujitsu has been a companion through his diverse personal and professional live of service, ranging from law enforcement to NGO humanitarian work, to education. His philosophy of teaching emphasizes a positive, collaborative, and constructive learning environment as the platform for growth, skill development, and access to BJJ despite age, race, gender, sexuality, or nationality, Chris believes that BJJ is a life long journey with no ending point and that there is no mastery whether in life or juijitsu without patience, discipline, kindness, and respect.

The Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Self Defense System has been evolving since the early 1920's when it was first developed by the Gracie Family. Since then the techniques that we teach have been tested countless times in competition and real life scenarios alike. There are well over 100 self-defense techniques in the official curriculum, all of them are learned and practiced at our academy in a safe, welcoming environment.

If you're interested in self-defense, you've come to the right academy! Professor Vincent Anzelone has been training in the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Self Defense System since 2010 under the direction of Professor JW Wright. In 2019 Vincent spent 10 days with Master Royler Gracie in San Diego, CA becoming certified in this system by Master Royler Gracie himself. These techniques are taught at our academy to students of all ages and skill levels.

Over the past several years jiu-jitsu has become an incredibly popular sport here in the United States and around the world. Jiu-Jitsu is a highly competitive, full-contact, combat sport. These competitions are typically held according to the athletes' age, weight and rank.

Children may start training as early as four years old in our "Skills and Drills" class. This class is specifically designed for younger students who need to develop essential classroom skills that will benefit them in our more technical children's program as well as in their classroom at school.

We also teach them how better to avoid such situations and how to navigate difficult scenarios that they may encounter throughout their lives.

Also... jiu-Jitsu is FUN for kids! We regularly have parties for the little ones, celebrate birthdays and holidays, participate in competitions and find every excuse we can to HAVE FUN!

Our academy in Montgomery, TX sets time aside on the mats for females only (see schedule below). This is a time where women and girls can practice self defense techniques, competition training and have some time in the academy to themselves. Women can choose to stay for the adult/co-ed class or simply attend the women only sessions. Your journey is your own!

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is becoming the most popular martial art and sport for WOMEN and girls! As owners of The FUJI Jiu-Jitsu Championship Series we have been running tournaments throughout the United States since 2012 and can tell you that women are training and competing now more than ever! Women and girls of ALL AGES are participating in jiu-jitsu and achieving a wide variety of goals!

More and more young girls are training jiu-jitsu than ever before. Gracie jiu-jitsu builds self-confidence, classroom skills, their overall fitness level and is a fantastic social activity. At our academy in Montgomery, TX we have one major goal, "Positive Influence". It doesn't matter if you want to be a world champion, get in shape, learn self-defense or if you're simply looking for an activity for you and your children. We want to be the positive influence that helps you achieve those goals.

Private lessons are a fantastic way to improve your technical ability at a much faster rate than by only attending group lessons. These are in no way required but depending on your schedule and/or your jiu-jitsu goals, private lessons are a proven method of success.

In each private session you can expect about 45-60 minutes of instruction and drilling that is catered to your specific jiu-jitsu goals. The lesson plan can be determined either by your or by the instructor and you should expect to take notes and or record your session if you so choose. You may also bring an "uke" (training partner) with your for the lesson as well.

New members may choose one of the three gear packages below. A Gracie Humaitá uniform and rash guard is required for all members. Uniforms and/or gear from other teams are not allowed in any way whatsoever. Each of the packages includes the specified gear at a discounted price.

Additionally, the first month of membership is discounted by 50% for all new members. After the first month, each member will be billed monthly at the full rate as shown. These discounted packages are only offered to new members.

We have no membership contracts, however all members are subject to our cancellation policy as described in the membership agreement.
